Mac & Cheese from Nana Margie
Ingredients:
1 pound of elbow macaroni
1/2 cup onion, finely minced
6 tablespoons butter
6 tablespoons flour
3 cups milk
1 cup beer (optional)
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
6 cups shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup Italian bread crumbs, can substitute Panko bread crumbs
Directions:
1. Preheat Oven to 350 degrees.
2. Cook macaroni as directed and drain.
3. Saute onion in butter until tender.
4. Stir in flour, then add milk, beer, and Worcestershire sauce.
5. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
6. Add cheese, stirring until melted.
7. Pour sauce over macaroni and turn into a 9x13 greased baking dish.
8. Sprinkle top with bread crumbs.
9. Bake for 30 minutes or until top is golden brown.
